Most of the money for Cancer Donations has nothing to do with Cancer Research and / or Cures. Draw your own conclusions.
Go to https://candid.org/research-and-verify-nonprofits/990-finder. Type in your favorite charity and read the Federal filing required by law.
Most charities are INVESTING YOUR DONATION so that the organization grows larger. Very little of the millions of dollars collected actually go to research. You could keep the money and INVEST it for yourself. BUT, the truth is: We want to feel good and donating fills that need. We really don't care what happens after we give something.
